HHRAM will provide one HHRAM member with a scholarship to attend the ASHHRA Annual Conference & Exposition. Total Scholarship award is $1,500.

Purpose

To provide financial assistance to those interested in attending the ASHHRA Annual Conference & Exposition. The objective is to provide healthcare HR practitioners with a venue to receive educational tools and resources, in addition to networking opportunities that will allow them to become successful healthcare HR leaders.

Guidelines

  • The scholarship must be used to attend the current year’s Annual Conference & Exposition only, is non-transferable.
  • A completed application must be submitted by May 1st to be considered for the scholarship
  • Recipients will be notified by May 31st
  • Recipients must prepare a one-page summary report on the conference to be published in the HHRAM newsletter.

Criteria

  • Applicant must show financial need for the scholarship
  • Applicant must attend the current year ASHHRA Annual Conference & Exposition
  • Consideration will be given to those who are new to the field of healthcare human resources
  • Consideration will be given to those who are first-time conference attendees.

What scholarship will not fund:

  • Attendees that have their conference fees paid by their employer
  • Organizations
  • Consultants/Non-practitioners

The Healthcare Human Resources Association of Minnesota (HHRAM) has established a scholarship program to encourage undergraduate and graduate level academic pursuits for a career in healthcare and/or healthcare human resources. Individuals eligible must be:

  • HHRAM member
  • HHRAM member's dependent children
  • Employees from a HHRAM member's workplace
  • Current HHRAM members pursuing PHR or SPHR Certification

Funded by HHRAM, scholarships are given without regard to: race, color, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or national origin.

Eligibility:
Current members of HHRAM or their dependent children are eligible to participate in this program. A dependent child is defined as natural-born or legally adopted child for whom the HHRAM member is considered the legal guardian. All employees from a HHRAM member's workplace are also eligible for this program. Individuals who received an award in the past may reapply. However, other applications submitted would be given first consideration.

Current and former (within the past year) Executive Committee members and their relatives are ineligible to receive scholarships. Executive Committee members include persons holding positions of President, President Elect, Past President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Applicants must have completed the equivalent of two years of a four year undergraduate program or applicants must have completed one year of a two program offered at a vocational or community college to be eligible. Graduate student applications may apply at any time. All applicants must meet a minimum G.P.A. of 2.50 (based on a 4.0 maximum).

Applicants pursuing PHR or SPHR Certification must have ordered their self-study program materials or be enrolled into the College or University Program to be eligible.

Scholarship Awards:

Scholarship Awards are $1,000 per individual per year, and may be used to pay for tuition, books, supplies, certification test and fees associated with academic pursuits in healthcare and/or healthcare human resources. The scholarship(s) may be awarded after consideration of all presented information. The maximum awarded to any one individual is $2,000.00.

Scholarships will be awarded twice per year; once for Fall Term and once for the Spring Term. Completed application material with required documents must be received by HHRAM no later than July 1st for the following Fall Term and by November 1st for the following Spring Term. Two (2) awards may be granted per year with additional awards granted at the discretion of the executive committee and subject to the financial status of the association.

Application:
Application materials need to be requested from the HHRAM Scholarship Coordinator. The application packet will contain application and scholarship information.

Applicants are solely responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. All information submitted is confidential and will be reviewed only by HHRAM personnel.

Only one complete application per individual, including all required information would be eligible for consideration. All required materials should be submitted at one time by the deadline listed on the application form.

Completed application material with required documents must be received by HHRAM no later than July 1st for the following Fall Term and by November 1st for the following Spring Term.

Recipient Selection:

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, grades, honors, work experience, leadership and participation in school and community activities, statement of educational and career goals, and a letter(s) of recommendation by a direct supervisor or faculty member.

The number of scholarships awarded will be based on HHRAM selection procedures and available funds. Not all applicants will receive awards.

In the event that an employee from an Executive Committee member's workplace makes an application for a scholarship that member must recuse themselves from all deliberations related to the selection of candidates. This recusal will be documented.

The Executive Committee will make selection of each recipient(s). All applicants will be notified of their award status by the 15th of the month following the respective application deadline (August 15th and December 15th). 

Obligations:
Scholarship recipients must enroll in their educational programs no later than fall of the year in which the award is given. Recipients are required to provide HHRAM with current transcripts and to notify HHRAM of any changes in address, school enrollment or other pertinent information.


Payment of Awards:
HHRAM Executive Committee authorizes scholarship payments. Payments are made in two equal installments with the exception of an award given for PHR or SPHR Certification:

  • First installment after selection process approximately September 15th for Fall Term and January 15th for Spring Term.
  • Second installment when recipient presents a copy of courses completed with grades and a GPA of 2.50 or better along with a copy of courses enrolled for the spring semester.
  • For PHR and SPHR Certification, the award shall be give after verification of enrollment.

Checks are mailed to each recipient's home address and are payable jointly to the student and the school and must be endorsed by both if applicable.

Revision Policy:
The general conditions and procedures under which scholarships are made are subject to periodic review by HHRAM, including termination of the program.
