The Healthcare Human Resources Association of Minnesota (HHRAM) has established a scholarship program to encourage undergraduate and graduate level academic pursuits for a career in healthcare human resources.

Funded by HHRAM, scholarships are given without regard to: race, color, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or national origin.

Eligibility:

Scholarships will be awarded using the following tiered priority structure:

Tier 1 – Highest Priority

Applicants who meet one of the following:

  • Annual dues paid for that fiscal year (active) HHRAM members pursuing an HR-related degree or certification

  • Immediate family members (spouse/child) of active HHRAM members pursuing an HR-related degree

  • Individuals pursuing an HR-specific education pathway aligned with a career in Human Resources

Examples of qualifying HR education include:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Human Resource Management, Organizational Leadership (HR focus), Business Administration (HR concentration)

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR preparation programs

  • HR certificate programs through accredited institutions

Tier 2 – Secondary Priority

Applicants who are:

  • Employees of HHRAM member organizations pursuing an HR-related degree or certification

  • Individuals employed by a HHRAM member organization who demonstrate intent to transition into or grow within an HR role

Tier 3 – Tertiary Priority

If no qualified Tier 1 or Tier 2 applicants are identified, scholarships may be awarded to: 

    • HHRAM members, their immediate family members, or employees of member organizations pursuing a healthcare-specific degree

Examples include:

    • Nursing
    • Healthcare Administration
    • Allied Health programs
    • Clinical healthcare degrees


Scholarship Awards:

Scholarship Awards are $500.00 per individual per year, and may be used to pay for tuition, books, supplies, certification test and fees associated with academic pursuits in healthcare and/or healthcare human resources. The scholarship(s) may be awarded after consideration of all presented information. The maximum awarded to any one individual is $1,000.00

Scholarships will be awarded twice per year; once for Fall Term and once for the Spring Term. Completed application material with required documents must be received by HHRAM no later than July 1st for the following Fall Term and by November 1st for the following Spring Term. Two (2) awards may be granted per year with additional awards granted at the discretion of the executive committee and subject to the financial status of the association.

Applicants are solely responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. All information submitted is confidential and will be reviewed only by HHRAM personnel.

Only one complete application per individual, including all required information would be eligible for consideration. All required materials should be submitted at one time by the deadline listed on the application form.

Completed application material with required documents must be received by HHRAM no later than July 1st for the following Fall Term and by November 1st for the following Spring Term.


Recipient Selection:

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, grades, honors, work experience, leadership and participation in school and community activities, statement of educational and career goals, scholarship eligibility, and a letter(s) of recommendation by a direct supervisor or faculty member.

The number of scholarships awarded will be based on HHRAM selection procedures and available funds. Not all applicants will receive awards.

In the event that an employee from an Executive Committee member's workplace makes an application for a scholarship that member must recuse themselves from all deliberations related to the selection of candidates. This recusal will be documented.

The Executive Committee will make selection of each recipient(s). All applicants will be notified of their award status by the 15th of the month following the respective application deadline (August 15th and December 15th). 


Obligations:
Scholarship recipients must enroll in their educational programs no later than fall of the year in which the award is given. Recipients are required to provide HHRAM with current transcripts and to notify HHRAM of any changes in address, school enrollment or other pertinent information.


Payment of Awards:
HHRAM Executive Committee authorizes scholarship payments. Payments are made in two equal installments with the exception of an award given for PHR or SPHR Certification:

  • First installment after selection process approximately September 15th for Fall Term and January 15th for Spring Term.
  • Second installment when recipient presents a copy of courses completed with grades and a GPA of 2.50 or better along with a copy of courses enrolled for the spring semester.
  • For PHR and SPHR Certification, the award shall be given after verification of enrollment.

Checks are mailed to each recipient's home address and are payable jointly to the student and the school and must be endorsed by both if applicable.

Revision Policy:
The general conditions and procedures under which scholarships are made are subject to periodic review by HHRAM, including termination of the program.
